
Raised by his single mom, with whom he had a tumultuous relationship, Eminem moved around a lot in his youth, frequenting different schools. Unfortunately, he had a nerd face, at the time which wasn’t helped by his “spectacles with tape frames and freckled nose”. Often a victim of harassment at that period, he was beaten up in the bathroom by his regular bully, DeAngelo Bailey. However this beat up wasn’t, like the previous ones, as he ended up in a coma for a week. His mother filed a lawsuit against the school in 1982, but in vain…
Fast forward 17 years later, Marshall Mathers just released The Slim Shady LP, his second studio album, where we can find the widely known ‘My Name Is”. On the album’s fourth track, Brain Damage, the rapper dedicates a whole verse on his aggressor, describing the whole incident. Ironically, the DeAngelo Bailey cited in the song, tried to sue Eminem in 2003, claiming allegedly that the song slandered his character and infringed his budding rap career. The judge will dismiss that case, by rapping her own verdict as a freestyle.
